Pet Travel Regulations

Pet Travel to the EU/UK (France/UK/Netherlands/Spain/Italy)

Requirements and regulations below for your perusal:

  • Age at Import: 12 weeks & 21 days (minimum)
  • Microchip
  • Valid rabies vaccine – at least 12 weeks old at the date the vaccine was administered and the date of administration of the vaccine does not precede the date of microchip implantation
  • Rabies antibody test – the test must be carried out on a sample collected by an authorised veterinarian at least 30 days after the date of vaccination and not less than three months before the date of movement. The test must measure a level of neutralising antibody to rabies virus in serum equal to or greater than 0,5 IU/ml and the test must be performed in
    an approved laboratory
  • Treatment against Echinococcus multilocularis – must be treated against the parasite Echinococcus multilocularis as follows:
    • The treatment must be administered by a veterinarian within a period of not more than 120
hours and not less than 24 hours before the time of scheduled entry
    • The treatment must be certified by the administering veterinarian in the relevant section of
      the passport.

Please note that timeline strictly has to be Microchip > Rabies (if initial or with lapse)

*wait 30 days > blood serum draw date > 90 days > import to EU countries / the UK

  • If pet has a current valid rabies vaccine but no microchip, the pet has to be administered with
a rabies booster, wait 30 days, then do the RNATT
  • If a pet has a microchip dated BEFORE the rabies vaccine, and rabies vaccine is currently valid for transport, you can already do the RNATT. Keep the rabies vaccine updated with no
lapse so the RNATT result will continue to be valid for travel.
  • Owner and pet have to travel within +/- 5 days

Important: It is required by the EU and the UK to arrive within the 5 days to be considered as a non-commercial import and for the pet to arrive in an Annex IV certificate. Arriving outside the 5-day
window will be considered commercial, and will need to arrive in an Annex I. However, the EU and the UK does not allow for pets from the Philippines to arrive on Annex I. In short, pets from the Philippines can only arrive on an Annex IV, non-commercial health certificate.

The border veterinarians/BSP/the authorities in respective EU airports and the UK no longer allows the import outside the 5 days. Owner or nominated person must travel when accompanied by a
Non-Commercial health certificate.

Please be advised that the owner or a nominated person must travel & meet the 5-day ruling. Failure to meet this request could result in the pet(s) being re-exported to origin.

Pets may travel within 5 days of the owner or authorised person by the owner’s movement. The owner should authorise this person in writing prior to travel.

If the owner is authorising a friend or family member to travel, the owner’s name should be the consignor and consignee on the health certificate. However the health certificate should be signed by the authorised person. The owner will need to discuss this with the issuing vet.
